About the Project
Access to safe, timely blood remains a serious challenge in Nepal, where donors and recipients are still connected mainly through phone calls, word-of-mouth, and manual hospital records. This slow, ad-hoc process often costs precious time in genuine emergencies, and blood banks lack any shared, searchable view of who is available to donate. BloodLink is a web-based platform that solves this by giving donors a single place to register their blood group and location, and giving hospitals, blood banks, and patients a fast way to search and request blood in real time. When an emergency request is posted, BloodLink automatically matches it against nearby eligible donors and notifies them instantly, while a built-in chatbot answers common questions along the way. The platform is built for blood donors, hospitals, blood banks, and patients or families in urgent need, using a Django backend with a modular architecture (donor, emergency, blood bank, and chatbot modules) and a simple, responsive web interface. By centralizing donor data and automating matching, BloodLink shortens the distance between someone who needs blood and someone willing to give it, offering a scalable model that could meaningfully improve emergency response and blood availability across Nepal.
